His comments come after Chancellor Rishi Sunak re-wrote the property tax rule book in his mini Budget on Wednesday. "This is a huge intervention," Martin told viewers of the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV. "There's this temporary cut until the end of March, 2021. "From yesterday, you'll pay £0 on the first £500,000." And it means savings even if your home costs more than that too. "Lots of people misunderstand stamp duty," Martin said.
That's because there was a big change a few years back. Before, as soon as your house passed a certain value, you paid the top rate of stamp duty on the entire amount.
