Manchester United are facing the unthinkable prospect of a relegation battle under Ruben Amorim in 2025. The Reds sit 14th on the Premier League table, seven points clear of the bottom three after Monday's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
United's defeat at home to Eddie Howe's side was their fourth in a row across all competitions with Amorim's team failing to score since the 4-3 loss at Tottenham on December 19.
Talk of a relegation battle has partly been fuelled by Amorim himself, with the Portuguese admitting United could potentially be sucked into a dogfight to avoid the bottom three this season. "When you have these kind of moments, especially in the big clubs, you work really hard to turn things around, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics to cope with the difficult moments," he said after the Newcastle game. "So we have to acknowledge our position the way you see the league, that everybody can beat everybody, so we have to win games and to focus on surviving. "I’m responsible, I don’t like to arrive here and make excuses.
I think people are tired of excuses in this club and I think sometimes I talk about relegation because of that. "I think our club needs a shock, you know?
