Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood will appear in court on Monday charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The England international, 21, from Bowdon, Trafford, is due to make a first court appearance at Manchester and Salford magistrates in the morning.
In a statement on Saturday afternoon, the Crown Prosecution Service said it had authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge him with the three offences.
Janet Potter, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
