The Northern Irishman, who returned to the club during the summer on a free transfer, was forced off less than a quarter of an hour into Wednesday night's Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen at Parken Stadium.
He went down off the ball after just 13 minutes and was immediately withdrawn. Making his first Champions League start for United, who were leading 1-0 at the time of his early exit, in 10 years, the centre-back was replaced by Raphael Varane, who was named among the substitutes for the second game running.
Evans, who will celebrate his 36th birthday in January, has earned the nod ahead of Varane in recent matches.
