The United squad were livid at Michael Oliver’s intervention from Stockley Park, with the VAR directing David Coote to the screen to view a penalty box collision between Matthijs de Ligt and Danny Ings.
Jarrod Bowen converted to give the Hammers the lead, after Casemiro had initially cancelled out Crysencio Summerville's goal.
The view from the players was that it had been a standard coming together during a battle for the ball and they were stunned not only when Coote was told to watch the incident again, but when he then awarded the spot kick.
