Manchester United youngster Ruben Curley is joining Stoke City on a permanent transfer. Curley's contract at United expires at the end of the season and Championship club Stoke made a late offer for the midfielder on transfer deadline day, which has been accepted.
United feel it makes sense to move Curley on now to bank something for the academy product and a move to Stoke will provide the 19-year-old with a chance to kick on in his career.
The Manchester Evening News understands the fee involved is nominal, so the deal wasn't sanctioned for profit and sustainability rules (PSR), but there are clauses inserted into the deal that could see United receive fees in the future, depending on how Curley's career develops.
United didn't plan to trigger the one-year extension in Curley's deal and he will be wished all the best by staff as he embarks on his next chapter after coming through the academy.
