A skyscraper touted to ‘push the boundaries of city centre living’ has moved a step closer to becoming reality, but plans next door appear to be dead in the water.

Proposals to build a 44-storey apartment block with 364 flats on Whitworth Street West have been submitted for planning permission.

Some 120 will be one-bedroom, 218 will have two bedrooms, and 26 will be three-bed properties. Developers Glenbrook say arches on street level will house residents’ communal amenity facilities, in an effort to ‘push the boundaries of city centre living’. “We have used our extensive experience of delivering high-quality residential developments and feedback from our operational partners to ensure Whitworth Street West truly responds to the requirements of residents, both now and in the future,” Daniel Roberts, Glenbrook development director, told property news title Place North West. “We believe this development and its exceptional location offer the opportunity to push the boundaries of city-centre living, and we’re hugely excited about the prospect of bringing such a prestigious building to market.” While the 2-4 Whitworth Street West project has moved a step forward in formally being entered for planning permission, a neighbouring tower looks dead in the water.

Proposals to build one of Manchester’s first ‘skinnyscrapers’, Vision Manchester, hit trouble last year. Companies House documents show its developer, a special-purpose vehicle called Vision Manchester Ltd, entered administration last June.
