A recycling centre in Wythenshawe had to be closed and evacuated after a 'grenade' was found on the site. Emergency services descended on Longley Lane recycling centre, in Sharston, after being called out to reports of a grenade being found on the site at around 4pm today (June 24).

An hour later, Recycle for Greater Manchester told residents on social media the recycling centre had been 'temporarily closed due to an emergency incident'.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing workers stood outside the tip while a large police presence was in attendance. Greater Manchester Police says its officers went out to the scene and were able to remove the suspicious device.
