Manchester United are beating Real Madrid in the transfer battle over Matthijs de Ligt. That is because the Juventus star would prefer a move to England instead of Spain.
De Ligt has had a tough time since trading life in the Eredivisie for Serie A last summer. The highly-rated centre-back joined Juventus for a fee of around £65m after a deal was facilitated by Mino Raiola.
But a series of injuries and fan criticism has made it a far less than easy ride. It has led to speculation over the 20-year-old’s future with United and Real Madrid both interested in his services.
