Man suspected of having crossbow on bus in Wythenshawe arrested by armed police as passengers evacuated

A man suspected of having a crossbow on a bus was arrested by armed officers in Wythenshawe. Officers with 'huge guns' surrounded the bus on Portway at around 5.30pm on Wednesday (September 28) after it was brought to a sudden halt.

Members of the public were evacuated from the vehicle for their safety, police said. A spokesperson for the force confirmed this morning that a man had reportedly taken a crossbow onto the bus.

He remains in custody for questioning. Police said there 'is no suggestion that any threats were made to the public'. Pictures sent to the Manchester Evening News showed officers pointing their guns at the bus in the dramatic scenes.
