Man in his 60s from Manchester arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after young woman seriously injured in crash

A man aged in his 60s from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a young woman was seriously injured in a collision.

The woman, who police said is aged in her 20s, was rushed to hospital with what police called 'serious injuries'. Police said she was a passenger in a Toyota that was 'struck from behind' by a Mercedes C220 that was 'driving in the same direction' on a busy bypass.

Both cars ended up on a grass verge and the Toyota landed on its roof, said police. The man from Manchester, who hasn't been named, was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He remain in police custody for questioning on Friday night, said Lancashire Police. The Toyota driver, a man in his 40s, suffered 'more minor injuries', the force added.
