A man was knocked unconscious by a single blow to the head during a disturbance in Airdrie town centre during the early hours of the morning.Kevin McDermott lashed out after his partner was pulled to the ground, Airdrie Sheriff Court heard this week.A jury found McDermott, 33, guilty of assaulting the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Stirling Street on November 19 last year.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The wound will leave a scar.He did not give evidence during the trial but the jurors were shown CCTV footage that captured the assault.Trouble flared at around 3.30am.

The CCTV showed a woman slapping the victim who then pulled her to the ground.McDermott was seen to punch the man once on the side of the head, causing him to fall.He lay slumped on the ground for several minutes before police and ambulance arrived.The court heard that McDermott and his partner walked away but he flagged down a police car and told officers: "I've never done anything like that before.
