A man has been jailed after raping a woman in her own home in what officers called a 'horrific ordeal'. Marcell Koekemoer, of HMP Bristol, but previously of Stretford, has been jailed for 17 years.

He was found guilty of two counts of rape following a trial at Bristol Crown Court, and sentenced on Tuesday (May 30). The court heard how Koekemoer, 25, had asked his victim if he could stay at her home in Cheshire after being locked out of his own in August 2022.

She told him he could sleep on the sofa, but during the early hours of the morning he crept into her bedroom and raped her in a sickening attack. Koekemoer was arrested in August 2022 and interviewed, but denied the allegations. He was released on conditional bail as police continued to investigate.
