Man in court over death of young Celtic fan at Wishaw house charged with murder

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a young Celtic fan in Wishaw. Francis McConachie made no plea during the private hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, February 27, after being arrested and charged by police.The 34-year-old, from Wishaw, was remanded in custody with the case committed for further examination by prosecutors.

He is expected to reappear in the dock in the next eight days.Emergency services were called to the scene in Coldstream Crescent at around 9.25pm on Friday following reports a man had been found seriously injured.

The 21-year-old, named locally as Thomas O’Rourke, was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.His grieving loved ones organised a fitting tribute for the loyal Celtic FC supporter, calling on fans to applaud him during the 21st minute of the Old Firm clash on Sunday.

Before the match, cousin Shelley Frame wrote: “To all fans of the Old Firm. My little cousin Thomas O’Rourke was sadly taken from us on Friday the 24th of February.“Thomas was Celtic daft and no doubt would have been gearing up for this Old Firm tomorrow.
