A man who coughed at a police officer and said he wanted to 'give them corona' after being caught without a ticket as he tried to catch a train claimed in court he spluttered while eating a biscuit.

Orieghn Quintyne, 21, from Birmingham, was on his way to Halifax when he told train staff he had ‘corona’. He claimed he didn’t have the money to buy a ticket after he was stopped at Manchester Victoria station.

He was told he wouldn't be allowed on the train. Quintyne became argumentative and told staff he was going to climb over the barrier.

As BTP officers took over, he coughed in the direction of one of the officers - and sneezed at another - before saying he wanted to ‘give them corona’.
