The Brazilian went into City's last game against Norwich on 15 clean sheets, level with Burnley's Nick Pope, knowing a shut-out against the bottom side would see him win the award.
Norwich finished the season as the lowest scorers in the league, and had lost every game since the restart. They held the worst away record, scoring just seven goals on their travels all season.
So Ederson would have been confident of winning the Golden Glove for the first time, but had to make a couple of excellent saves on the final day at the Etihad.
