A man has become what is believed to be the first person in Britain to be charged for not wearing a face mask. Sam Francis was arrested after allegedly refusing to put on a face covering when ordered to by police.
While others have been fined for not wearing masks, Mr Francis is believed to be the first to be charged and taken to court.
The 30-year-old, from Chislehurst, Kent, was stopped by officers at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe on Saturday. He was also charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and will appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on November 14.
