An elderly man has died after a car crashed into a shop in Stockport. Police say a BMW driven by the 74-year man crashed with another vehicle then ploughed into a building, thought to be a hairdressers, on Stockport Road in Marple on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene, but sadly the pensioner was pronounced dead. No-one else was injured.
GMP's serious collision investigation unit are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, which took place at around 11.15am. They are being supported by specialist officers at this time. "Whilst we continue to investigate, we need to ensure we retrieve all the best possible evidence available to us and would urge anyone who has further information that could help us to contact us direct as soon as possible." The air ambulance landed on nearby Marple Park.
