Helen Gallagher, a soap legend famed for her role in the 70s drama series Ryan's Hope, has passed away at the age of 98.The acclaimed stage and TV actress died on Sunday, 24 November, it was confirmed by New York’s Herbert Berghof Studio, where she taught musical theatre singing classes.Throughout her remarkable career, US star Helen bagged three Daytime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Donaldson Award, and a Drama Desk Award.

She was best known for her role as Maeve Ryan on the ABC soap opera Ryan's Hope, where she starred for over 13 years - the entire duration of the show.

In the soap, Maeve Ryan was a lead character who was a gentle and loving mother with a fiery Irish temper. She co-owned Ryan's Bar in New York City and was a wife to Johnny and sister to Annie.

Aside from her iconic role on the hit soap opera, Helen appeared in numerous other TV shows and films.This included co-hosting Manhattan Showcase, a talent-discovery programme on CBS.
