A man was arrested today by detectives investigating what they described as a 'highly sophisticated' mobile phone fraud operation.
Police said a number of people, not just in Greater Manchester, have 'potentially been a victim'. Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Economic Crime Unit executed warrants at dawn at four addresses in the Oldham area as part of an ongoing investigation.
A 37 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud and remained in police custody today for questioning. GMP, together with the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit, launched an investigation members of the public reported they believed they had fallen victim to fraud.
Police said victims were called by someone claiming to be from their mobile network provider. They were persuaded to upgrade their contracts and led to believe they would be entitled to an upgraded handset.
