As households grapple with the cost of living crisis, there's been a marked uptick in those resorting to illegal streaming – a much cheaper alternative for watching sports and movies that has seen a surge in popularity.
Yet, authorities are clamping down on this growing trend. A major operation, one of the largest aimed at piracy, was executed across several European countries including the UK, resulting in 11 arrests and an additional 102 individuals being investigated by police.
The crackdown targeted suppliers of illegal content and is believed to dismantle a network generating over €250 million (£200 million) each month, marking a significant victory for content providers who have been losing out.
Not only were illegal movie and top-flight football streams shut down, but numerous devices used to distribute the content were also confiscated.
