M62 and M67 drivers to be hit by traffic delays amid closures this weekend

Drivers are being warned to plan ahead as emergency repairs take place on a Greater Manchester motorway over the weekend. 'Important safety work' will be underway along the westbound M62 near Rochdale over the next two weekends, as well as full carriageway closures on February 17 and 18 along the M67 between Denton and Hyde in Tameside.

The M62 repairs will take place in lane one of the westbound carriageway between junction 20 for Rochdale and Oldham and junction 19 at Heywood between 8pm on Friday (February 16) and 5am on Monday (February 19) and again from 8pm on Friday, February 23, and 5am on Monday, February 26. "This is a four-lane section of the motorway and lane one of the westbound carriageway will be closed during the day on the Saturdays and Sundays with lanes one and two closed overnight on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights," they wrote. "The mountings for the manhole covers are worn and need repairs to prevent them from collapsing and causing a hazard to motorway users.

As well as carrying out these repairs National Highways staff will take advantage of the lane closures to carry out other maintenance, inspections and cleaning. "Drivers heading westbound towards Manchester from other parts of Greater Manchester and Yorkshire are advised to leave a little bit of extra time for journeys." They also reminded motorists there are full carriageway closures this weekend along the M67 between Denton and Hyde in
