Luton Town manager Rob Edwards suggested his side would have been within their rights to leave Old Trafford with something to show for their efforts following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
United centre-back Victor Lindelof, who was recalled to the starting line-up in place of the injured Jonny Evans, lashed home the only goal of the game just before the hour mark.
The ball broke kindly to the Swede inside the penalty area after Luton failed to fully clear a corner. Marcus Rashford's low cross into the six-yard box was cleared only as far as the centre-back and he finished with aplomb to score his first goal for the club in almost three years.
The Reds had spurned a whole host of chances prior to Lindelof's effort, meaning it was nothing more than they deserved.
