Luke Littler has ascended to second place in the PDC's Order of Merit after clinching his first World Darts Championship. The 17-year-old prodigy won the Sid Waddell Trophy - a year after losing to Luke Humphries in the final - on Friday, defeating Michael van Gerwen 7-2 at Alexandra Palace.

Littler's journey to becoming world champion was far from easy. He staved off spirited performances from Ryan Meikle and Ian White to reach the last 16 before narrowly beating Ryan Joyce in a seven-set nail-biter. 'The Nuke' then faced Nathan Aspinall, dispatching him with ease, winning 5-2.

A similar result followed against Stephen Bunting, with Littler thrashing his opponent 6-1 to advance to the final for the second consecutive year.

However, the Runcorn-born darts player ensured there was no repeat of last year's heartbreak in 2025 as he comfortably defeated Van Gerwen to win the tournament.
