Lorry driver killed in horror crash instantly suffered 'unsurvivable injuries'

A Scots lorry driver 'with a big heart' who was killed in a head-on crash with another HGV suffered 'non-survivable' injuries that were 'instantly fatal', an inquiry has heard.Alan Jones, 64, was behind the wheel of a massive Man 480 TGX articulated lorry delivering goods to Tesco when he was killed as his vehicle hit another in the early hours of the morning on the A9 near Carrbridge in the Highlands.Emergency crews raced to the scene at around 4.15am on September 30, 2022 - but found the dad-of-one 'clearly with non-survivable injuries that were not compatible with life'.

The other lorry driver - a 56-year-old man - was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he was later released after receiving treatmentA fatal accident inquiry was held by Sheriff Sara L Matheson into the tragedy investigated how the incident occurred.

It found Alan had been in generally good health and that the vehicle was in good working order although the weather on that night was described as 'windy and wet'.Similarly the other driver passed an eyesight test, had not been on his mobile and there were no traces of drink or drugs.The report read: "He died on 30 September, 2022 when a lorry he was driving in the course of his employment collided with an oncoming lorry on the A9 road at Black Mount, near the Carrbridge junction."The deceased’s HGV travelled up the grass verge with the uphill gradient of same causing it to overturn, coming to rest on its nearside."About 04.30 hours, same date, the police witnesses Wayne Latimer, Craig Strang, Brigita Pusinskaite and John Beverly arrived at the locus where they observed the two HGVs with significant damage."They observed Mr Jones motionless within the cab of his vehicle, suspended by his
