Moments before, the getaway van driver had thrown suspected packages of heroin onto the M56 motorway during the chase. Cheshire Police had attempted to stop the driver near Warrington before he drove off 'at speed'.
A dramatic chase then followed, with officers from Greater Manchester Police also joining the pursuit as the police helicopter hovered overhead.
