City were in the top two until November, but have rapidly fallen away with just one win in their last nine league outings. The draw against Everton was the latest disappointing result that sent the Blues further away from retaining their title that has long felt unlikely.
Add to City's point, Chelsea lost in second, as did Aston Villa in fifth, and Nottingham Forest's form continued to rise to third.
Liverpool took advantage of the results to beat Leicester and move seven points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, with Slot's side now 14 points ahead of defending champions City.
