REIGNING British GT champ Sandy Mitchell is determined to put up a stout defence of his crown this weekend.The Scots endurance racer will be tackling the season’s penultimate double-header at Oulton Park, in Cheshire, partnered by team-mate Adam Balon in their Barwell Motorsport-prepared Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.The 21-year-old, from Forfar, said: “We’ve got two one-hour races this weekend, before the final two-hour race at Donington next month, and we’re only 19.5 points off the championship lead.“There’s a load of points up for grabs over the next three races. We know it won’t be easy because the standard of competition is fiercely tough.

CHRISTMAS has come early for Scots endurance racer Sandy Mitchell as Lamborghini have named him as a factory driver for next year.The promotion to professional racing driver for the Italian supercar maker’s motorsport division comes just weeks after the 20-year-old powered Lamborghini to its first British GT Championship.The youngster and former BTCC star Rob Collard clinched the British GT title in their Barwell Motorsport Black Bull Huracan Evo GT3 with victory in the season finale at Silverstone.Mitchell, from Forfar, said: “To now be classed as a pro driver on the Lamborghini factory list is definitely the realisation of a big dream of mine.

YOUNG Scots endurance racer Sandy Mitchell has spoken of his delight at achieving back-to-back 24 Hours of Spa wins.The 20-year-old mastered atrociously wet conditions to power ahead in his Barwell Motorsport team’s Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3 and take the chequered flag in the Pro-Am class.The hard-fought victory in the Blue Riband round of the GT World Challenge Europe follows the Forfar flyer’s Silver Cup class win at the Belgian F1 circuit in 2019.Finishing an impressive 15th overall out of 56 starters, last weekend’s success also moves Mitchell to third in the GT series’ Pro-Am title race.Partnered by father and son Rob and Ricky Collard, plus Russian ace Leo Machitski, the Scot spent more than 10 hours at the wheel in total.
