Lizzo to Play Rosetta Tharpe in Biopic for Amazon MGM Studios

variety.comMatt Minton mminton@variety.com Lizzo will play trailblazing musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the upcoming biopic “Rosetta” from Amazon MGM Studios.
From writers Natalie Chaidez (“The Flight Attendant”) and Kwynn Perry (“Tigerbelles”), “Rosetta” will tell Tharpe’s true story and how she became known as the godmother of Rock & Roll.
Lizzo will also produce the film alongside Kevin Beisler and Significant Productions’ Nina Yang Bongiovi and Forest Whitaker.
The project is currently in development. Four-time Grammy winning Lizzo is known for having two Hot 100 #1 hits with “Truth Hurts” and “About Damn Time.” She is also the first Black woman to win for record of the year at the Grammy Awards since 1994.
