Liz Truss in line for £115,000 allowance a year for life after serving as PM for 44 days

Labour leader Keir Starmer has called on Liz Truss to reject a £115,000 a year allowance that she will be entitled to as a former prime minister.

The ex PM will be able to receive the annual sum, which is over four times the average wage, even though she was only PM for 44 days.Starmer told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “She should turn it down.

I think that’s the right thing to do.A candidate to be next Tory leader must secure the support of 100 Tory MPs by 2pm on Monday.

A maximum of three MPs would be able to meet this threshhold.- If only one candidate receives this level of backing, he or she will become Tory leader and the next PM.- If all three candidates make the cut, a vote of MPs will take place between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Monday, with the person in third place dropping out.- If two candidates are left in the race, there will be an indicative vote of all Tory MPs between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday to show who is the most popular candidate among members of parliament.- If the second placed candidate stays in the race after the indicative vote, 180,000 party members will vote online on Friday October 28th, with the result announced on the same day.“She’s done 44 days in office, she’s not really entitled to it, she should turn it down and not take it.”Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey also said Liz Truss should not get the allowance.Asked if she deserves the payment, he told LBC radio: “No.
