However, they did not show any of the qualities they have exhibited over the course of the season. It led to Pep Guardiola's men handing them a crushing 4-0 defeat.
Kevin de Bruyne was the man of the match after scoring one and setting up two, as Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (own goal) all scored.
And though many Liverpool fans are not fussed about the result, many have been ired by Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler.Throughout the contest he referred to Liverpool and City's Premier League battle.
