The final episode saw Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) exposed as the villainous corrupt officer conspiring with the Organised Crime Group (OCG).
After a tense interview scene with the trio of Superintendent Ted Hastings ( Adrian Dunbar ), DI Kate Fleming ( Vicky McClure ), and DI Steve Arnott ( Martin Compston ), Buckells was led away back to prison.
However, in the closing scenes, the post-script from writer Jed Mercurio revealed that Central Police had applied for public interest immunity in the case of Ian Buckells, meaning institutional corruption was likely to go unchecked.
