An Ayrshire lifeboat crew has received high praise from RNLI chiefs after a dramatic sea rescue saw 10 people including children saved.
Heroes of Troon RNLI have been handed a chief executive commendation after their swift response to an SOS call last summer. The crew raced out to the vessel which was feared to be sinking near the Isle of Bute on June 14, 2022.A group of eight adults and two children were all evacuated from the stricken boat which was taking on water.
Passengers had sent out a Mayday call and frantically dialled 999 as they feared water was pouring onto their boatTroon RNLI were joined at the scene by other lifeboat crews from Largs and Tighnabruaich.Two crew members from Largs and one from Troon jumped onto the stricken boat and provided casualty care to the passengers.The passengers were then hauled to Troon's all-weather lifeboat and whisked to Portavadie marina where coastguard crews were on hand, along with paramedics who carried out an assessment.The stricken boat was taken to Tighnabruaich.Praising the crew, Duty Coxswain Ethan Harris said: "Working together, each of the three volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews from Troon, Largs and Tighnabruaich, demonstrated a high level of teamwork which meant that all persons were safely transferred back to shore."Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
