Posting on X, formerly Twitter, RSPB England has lashed out at the government’s plans to scrap environmental protections in order to boost housebuilding.
An amendment to the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill wants to stop local councils assuming that waste water from new homes would ‘adversely affect’ the environment, during the planning process.
If the amendment is approved, then the principle of ‘nutrient neutrality’ — which prevents new developments adding ‘to existing nutrient burdens within catchments’ — would be scrapped.
