Letham goalkeeper Aidan Bright earns praise after Scottish Junior Cup penalty shootout success

Letham’s Scottish Junior Cup spot-kick success led to an enjoyable night down the local watering hole on Saturday.The Perth side booked their place in round two thanks to a battle from 12 yards against Burghead Thistle.Goalkeeper Aidan Bright was receiving plenty of plaudits after saving three out of four visiting penalties at Seven Acres.“Aidan has been great since coming in and he did brilliant to save three of the four penalties,” said manager Sean Whitworth.“He is a well-liked character in the squad so we were all delighted for him to make the saves and get us through.“The penalty takers all did excellent as well to step up and take one so calmly.”The match had finished 1-1 - Stu Nicol with the home leveller - and Whitworth saw plenty of room for improvement.But he was delighted that the journey in the famous competition continues.He said: “It wasn’t the greatest of performances to be honest, but we did control the majority of the game, with Aidan being rarely tested.“It was pleasing to get back in the game after conceding from an own goal and to then go through on penalties.“It has been a few times we have gone to penalties now, three times last season and again on Saturday, so we are well versed on it.“We had chances to have the game won in the 90 minutes and it would have been nice to get it over with beforehand.“But it’s good to know the squad have the temperament to deal with the pressures that a penalty shootout brings.”Celebrations continued into the evening, with Whitworth concluding: “There were a few drinks had at the Welcome Inn after, with possibly the greatest initiation song I’ve ever seen.
