Legendary soap actress Charmian Abrahams has tragically died after being hit by a delivery van.The actress, who was best known for her role as Mavis Hooper in Crossroads, died at the age of 96 in Harborne, Birmingham, on Monday, 15 January.
A statement confirming her death was released by her family through West Midlands Police.They said: "Charmian was a much-loved aunt and great-aunt and a dear friend to many. "At 96 she was still full of life and energy and fiercely independent. "In her working life she had enjoyed a long career as an actor on stage and screen, performing alongside many great theatrical figures. "We are devastated that her life has been brought to an end so suddenly and tragically, but we will treasure our memories of her zest for life and the many good times we shared with her." Charmian enjoyed a 50-year career in acting and in that time starred in a string of TV shows.
Her most famous role was as Mavis Hooper, the wife of garage hand Sid Hooper, in Crossroads from 1981 to 1985, where she starred in more than 50 episodes.
The long-running soap, which ran for a whopping 24 years from 1964 to 1988 due to his huge success, was based in a fictional hotel in the Midlands.
