Lauren Ambrose — who joined the cast of “Yellowjackets” in Season 2 — describes Van as a “survivor.” Or she was, that is — in the penultimate episode of Season 3, Van is stabbed to death by Melissa (Hilary Swank).

Before that, she’d had more than her fair share of near-misses. Season 1 began with teen Van (Liv Hewson) trapped on the burning plane, when it seemed like there was no way to get her out, but she survived, much to the relief of her fellow Yellowjackets.

Later that season, Van got attacked by a wolf, and her friends believed her to be dead — they even planned her funeral. As they prepared her funeral pyre, she flickered her eyes and was, in fact, alive.
