After hearing the Government had suspended evictions during the coronavirus emergency, working mum Jeanny Pribe spoke to her landlord, hoping for some breathing space. “I fully intended to pay in full,” she says. “But I thought I might need a little extra time due to having less paid work.” In the event, she borrowed money from family to make sure the rent was paid.
But two days later, she was served with an eviction notice – dated for after the Government eviction ban ends on August 23. The housing charity Shelter is warning of “a wave of homelessness” from that date and says 230,000 renters may be at risk of ‘Covid-eviction’ when the Government ban ends.
