Lanarkshire woman seeks information on local honoured with bench dedication

A Lanarkshire woman is appealing for information on a former resident in her area - after she prevented a bench dedicated to him being scrapped.

Amanda McIntyre is now looking to find out if Jack Illien has any family or friends still living in Rutherglen. The bench was set to be removed from Hardie Avenue, where it has sat for a number of years, after a resident asked for it to be moved.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "It's been outside the block of flats where I stay for many years, and I saw it was being moved. "I knew it had a plaque on it, and I just thought you can't get rid of that, as that's something dedicated to the memory of that person."The problem is that we have no idea who he was, it's still a complete mystery, other than assuming he lived locally there.
