Lanarkshire provost resigns from council role after just three months in post

North Lanarkshire’s provost has stepped down from the role as the area’s first citizen after just three months in the civic post.Agnes Magowan today contacted tendered her resignation to the council’s chief executive “with a very heavy heart”, due to family health reasons which mean she is unable to give the “extensive” time required to the post.Depute provost Anne Thomas will fill the role until a special meeting to elect a new provost can be convened – which will be in addition to Thursday’s scheduled assembly to elect a new council leader.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
