A patient who bit a hospital security worker and abused a police officer has been jailed for a year. Stephen Lowell is already serving a 15-month sentence after a confrontation with police officers at his East Kilbride home.

He admitted biting a security officer on the finger, trying to spit at him and acting in a threatening or abusive manner.John Cooney, prosecuting, said Lowell had undergone an assessment at the hospital but when told he would be transferred to HMP Addiewell in West Lothian he became aggressive..The fiscal said: "Efforts were made to restrain him but he proceeded to bite a security officer on the finger, causing a superficial scratch."He was shouting and swearing throughout.
