Lanarkshire Argos branch to close next month

The Coatbridge branch of Argos is to shut its doors next month.It follows the firm’s decision to reduce its number of standalone stores and open more branches and collection points within Sainsbury’s, which is part of the same company.A total of 22 members of staff are affected by the forthcoming closure of the store, located at Faraday retail park.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

We regularly review our property estate and the decision to close a store is never taken lightly and is based on a range of factors.“We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in every way we can, including exploring opportunities to redeploy within Argos and Sainsbury’s.”Fulton MacGregor, the Coatbridge MSP, has been liaising with the affected staff members and has been in contact with company officials seeking alternative options to preserve the brand’s presence in the town.He said: “I’ve written to head office but there’s no change to their plans to close the shop; I really feel for the employees, some of whom have been there for 30 years and who are being offered redeployment
