Lady Antebellum axe ‘Antebellum’ from name over Black Lives Matter: ‘We’re embarrassed’

Country group Lady Antebellum have announced their decision to drop ‘Antebellum’ from their name permanently as racial inequality conversations mount amid the Black Lives Matter protests. The Grammy-winning group, consisting of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, have used the name for 14 years but will now be known as Lady A to avoid causing offence to the black community.

Antebellum is typically associated with slavery during the period before the American Civil War in the south and prior to the abolition of the slave trade in the 1800s.
