LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a big change in a press conference on Wednesday (June 3) to residents of the city.
During the conference, he announced that the city of Los Angeles will be cutting about $150 million from the LAPD budget and reinvesting it into communities of color. Garcetti said that he is “committed to making this moment not just a moment.
It is time to move our rhetoric towards action to end racism in our city.” “We will not be increasing out police budget,” he continued.
He also reported that officers will be required to report misconduct immediately and to intervene when they witness inappropriate use of force and high-risk behavior.
