Korea Box Office: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Debuts at Top Spot

Naman Ramachandran The South Korean box office saw a major shake-up this weekend with the arrival of “Captain America: Brave New World,” which took a commanding lead in its debut.

The Marvel film dominated with a massive market share, pushing holdover “Hitman 2” down the rankings. “Captain America: Brave New World” opened with KRW5.91 billion ($4 million), accounting for 62.2% of the total market share.

The superhero epic attracted 583,851 viewers in its opening weekend, amassing a cumulative total of $5.5 million, according to Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council.

Musical romance “Secret: Untold Melody” stayed at second place with $543,509, taking 8.3% of the market share. The film declined 42.2% from last weekend and drew 78,241 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to $4.7 million. “Hitman 2” slid to third place with $461,619, making up 7% of the weekend market.
