The grand occasion, which takes place in the House of Lords, is steeped in pomp and history. This is why King Charles stood beside Queen Camilla dressed in full royal regalia as he addressed the nation.
As a mark of respect, the crowd was silent as the British monarch prepared to speak. But unfortunately, this spell was broken as someone's phone started ringing.
People watching on were less than impressed – with many taking to social media to call the loud phone culprit "inappropriate".
