King Charles is reportedly 'very grateful' to Sarah Ferguson for convincing Prince Andrew to steer clear of the royal Christmas festivities amidst his latest scandal involving alleged Chinese spy Yang Tengbo.The Duke and Duchess of York have decided to skip the Royal Family's Christmas events and a Buckingham Palace lunch for the extended family, opting instead to spend the holidays at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.This move is seen as an effort to avoid casting a shadow over the celebrations with the recent negative press surrounding Andrew.
A palace insider told the Times: "I know that the King is very grateful to the duchess for her assistance." It's believed that Sarah Ferguson played a key role in Andrew's decision to miss out on the royal holiday gatherings.
After the new controversy surfaced, there were calls for the duke to bow out of today's Buckingham Palace lunch (Thursday, December 19) and to also not show up at the traditional Sandringham Christmas with the Royal Family.
Last December marked Sarah's re-emergence into the royal circle when she attended the Royal Family's annual Christmas Day walkabout for the first time in three decades, a notable moment following her divorce from Andrew in 1996.
