Speaking at this year’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on Saturday, the 75-year-old author sat down with fellow crime author Michael Connelly, where he shared his unfiltered thoughts on “L.A. Confidential,” the LAPD and his personal reading taste.  Ellroy, who has voiced issues with director Curtis Hanson’s adaptation before, gave a further explanation of his distaste. “People love the movie ‘L.A. Confidential,’” Ellroy said. “I think it’s turkey of the highest form. I think Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger are impotent. The director died, so now I can disparage the movie.”

But there was plenty of star power besides, including sets by Willie Nelson, making a brief but impactful appearance in advance of his 90th birthday celebration next weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, and Joe Walsh, who ensured that Stills and Young did not have the guitar heroism to themselves.

Trinidad Barleycorn Documentary “Dreamers” has been acquired by Swiss sales agency Lightdox. The film has its international premiere on April 23 at the 54th Visions du Réel film festival in Nyon, Switzerland, where it competes in the Burning Lights section. The film centers on Carlos, who arrived in Chicago from Mexico in 1993, at the age of 9, with his parents and three brothers. For 30 years, he has never been able to leave the city where he went to school and now works, coaches a soccer team, and pays his taxes, because he is still undocumented. He leads a discreet life, trying never to make a mistake, out of fear of being deported. “Even though I think of myself as an American, and consider America my country, I could get deported anytime because my country doesn’t think of me as one of its own,” he says in the film.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Jeff Shell is stepping down as CEO of NBCUniversal following a misconduct investigation, which found he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman in the company. Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal, and Shell announced the news in a joint statement, saying they have mutually agreed that Shell will depart effective immediately following a third-party investigation into a complaint of inappropriate conduct. “Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal,” Shell wrote in a memo to staff. “I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret. I’m truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them the last 19 years has been a privilege.”

Love Island star Samie Elishi has revealed that she had a row with her co-star Martin Akinola in Casa Amor, but it never aired on the ITV2 series. Speaking in a candid Q&A on her YouTube channel, the 23 year old, who recently enjoyed a tour of Macclesfield FC via her footballer beau Tom Clare, revealed that the argument occurred when she called out Martin for being "ungrateful" after cameras stopped rolling during one day. "We had an off-screen argument, and it couldn't air because it was at dinner time," she explained.

The members of pop group Girls Aloud leaned on one another following the death of Sarah Harding, close friend and former band member Kimberley Walsh has revealed.The English-Irish pop group was formed back in 2002 while on the ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals, with the band being comprised of Kimberley, Sarah, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl Tweedy.Their first single, Sound of the Underground, cemented their place on the charts, and over the course of their seven years together, they were named the United Kingdom's biggest-selling girl group of the 21st century, with over 4.3 million singles sales and 4 million albums sold in the UK alone.The band split in 2013 and went their separate ways, with each of the women releasing solo work. Sarah died in 2021 at the age of 39 after revealing she had breast cancer which had spread to other parts of her body.

Nadine Coyle has finally shown up to support her friend and former Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl, 39, in her West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story. Fans have noticed for weeks that Nadine still hadn't appeared to get tickets to the popular horror story, a theatre production that has showcased mum-of-one Cheryl's acting talents.
