Kilmarnock and Ayr United in SPFL postponement request as rivals unite to ask for derby to be pushed back

Kilmarnock and Ayr United have approached the SPFL to ask for their match to be pushed back to allow more than 500 fans in for the derby.

The Ayrshire rivals are scheduled to meet on January 2 in the standout Championship fixture of the festive period. The Premiership derby games scheduled for that date have been moved back, with Celtic to face Rangers on February 2.

The Dundee derby and Hearts vs Hibs have also been moved after the winter break was brought forward in light of new restrictions.

In the second tier there is no break, however, and despite Killie proposing a suspension of the season the clubs as a collective opted to play on.
