Kieran Trippier admitted Atletico Madrid set out to frustrate their opponents as they sent Liverpool crashing out of the Champions League.
The Spanish team scored three goals in extra time at Anfield to win the last 16 tie 4-2 on aggregate and send Jurgen Klopp’s team out.
The European champions had looked on course to overturn their first leg deficit after taking the lead in the tie early on in the first period of extra time.
But an Adrian blunder allowed Atletico to level the aggregate scores before they netted two more before the end to win 3-2 on the night.
